Wireframe:
Yelp app REdesign
By Audrey Aske
background
For many small business owners, Yelp has become a pain point. A negative review based on one person’s opinion can tank a restaurant’s rating. For users, it can be hit or miss due to the subjectivity of reviews. What one diner may consider a great meal, may not be the same for another. What’s more, all businesses are boiled down to a star rating regardless of the type of establishment. Given the power of algorithms, why not redesign Yelp to function more like algorithm-driven apps, such as Spotify and Instagram? Ideally, the app would gather the user’s input and interests to generate customized recommendations.
For this wireframe, I worked with a high-fidelity model to give a realistic portrayal of how Yelp could be reimagined as an algorithm-driven concept that highlights features and qualities over crowd-sourced ratings.
